NBI Certification

More than 6,000 industry professionals have completed the training and passed the Air Balancing Certification Test required to achieve this valuable air diagnostic and balancing certification. Since 1997, the NBI certification has become part of National Comfort Institute, a broader organization that trains and certifies HVAC industry professionals in a variety of disciplines

National Balancing Institute has certified many times more air balancing technicians than the National Environmental Balancing Bureau (NEBB) and Associated Air Balance Council (AABC) combined.

Since its inception, training and education has been the foundation of the National Balancing Institute. Where the NEBB and AABC certifications only require passing of private examinations and payment of substantial entrance fees and annual dues to join. Membership in these organizations combined is less than 1000 and has grown at an average rate of less than 3% per year for the past 15 years.

NBI was created to bring air balancing to the general public and are committed to making air balancing the standard practice for building and testing HVAC systems. Unless system performance is measured, there is no assurance that the systems are performing as designed.

The distinguishing characteristic of an NBI certified technician is the ability to prescribe solutions to the endless field conditions that prohibit an HVAC system from achieving balance and maximum performance. Over 80% of NBI technicians have extensive field experience in HVAC repair, installation or service and possess the skills required to troubleshoot the most difficult field conditions that can be uncovered through testing.
